Day One - US Departure:  Today we depart on our flight to Milan.  Meals are served during our transatlantic flight.

Day Two – Milan / Ligurian Coast: On arrival at Milan airport, we will be met by our tour manager and directed to our waiting motor coach.  En route to our hotel on the Ligurian Coast, we will have an introduction to our tour, before check-in and dinner.  (D)

Day Three – Ligurian Coast / Cinque Terre / Florence: Following breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and today’s journey, using motor coach and train, takes us into the Cinque Terre.  Through vineyards, olive groves and fruit orchards, the journey along the sheer, rocky coastline is an unforgettable experience.  There will be time to stop off and visit a two of the five villages clinging precariously to the cliff, before rejoining our coach to continue to Florence in the early evening (B,D).

Day Four - Florence: Our walking tour of Florence will include the Piazza del Duomo with its Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistry with the famous Doors of Paradise, Giotto’s Bell Tower and a visit to the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s David.  The remainder of the day is at leisure (B)

Day Five – Florence (Pisa + San Gimignano Excursion): Today’s excursion is the quintessential Tuscan experience.  No visit to Italy could be complete without experiencing the breath-taking view of its most famous landmark – but the Leaning Tower of Pisa is just one of a quartet of spectacular buildings on Pisa’s ‚Field of Miracles‘, which includes the Cathedral, Baptistery and Cemetery.  Following our visit and free time for lunch, we will continue to San Gimignano – in this most unique of the Tuscan hill towns it seems that time has stood still for 500 years.  There will be time to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this Mediaeval Manhattan, before we visit one of the local wineries for wine-tasting and supper. (B,D)

Day Six – Florence / Padua / Venice-Mestre: After breakfast we journey first to Padua, home to St. Anthony for the last 18 months of his life.  Our walking tour will include the Basilica of St. Anthony, which houses his tomb and relics, as well as the Collegium Maius of one of the oldest universities in the world.  Later, we will continue to the Mestre area of Venice for dinner and overnight.  (B,D)

Day Seven – Venice: This morning we will board a private motor launch and travel through the canals to the islands of Venice.  Our walking tour will include St. Mark’s Basilica, a visit of one of the glass factories, for which the city is so famous, and views of the Doge’s Palace and Bridge of Sighs.  The remainder of the day and early evening is free to continue exploring this unique city on the water, before we return by boat to the mainland and our hotel in Mestre.  (B)

Day Eight – Venice / Innsbruck / Oberammergau: We will depart Venice this morning to journey north into the breathtaking scenery of the Alps and to the Austrian border at the Brenner Pass.  After crossing into the Austrian Tirol, we will visit its capital city of Innsbruck, where our walking tour reveals its historic heart, with the Golden Roof, Imperial Palace and Court Church.  After some free time, we will continue to the German border, through Garmisch Partenkirchen and on to Oberammergau. (B,D)

Day Nine – Oberammergau: The Passion Play has been performed in Oberammergau since 1634.  It is a tradition which, although common throughout Europe at that time, largely disappeared over the centuries.  Except in this small Bavarian farming village it not only survived more than 350 years, but became famous all over the world.  Oberammergau is also well-known for the traditional craft of wood-carving and for the frescoes decorating the village houses.  This morning will be free to absorb the unique atmosphere of this Alpine village, before the afternoon and evening performance of the Passion Play.  (B,L,D)

Day Ten – Oberammergau / Munich: This morning we will depart Oberammergau with memories for a lifetime and journey to Munich, where our sightseeing tour of the Bavarian capital will include all the highlights of the city - the Olympic Park, Nymphenburg Palace, Königsplatz, the Ludwigstraße and Marienplatz.  There should also be some free time to enjoy one of the city's famous beer halls, before we gather for our farewell dinner.  (B,SD)

Day Eleven – Munich / USA: This morning we will be transferred to Munich airport to begin our journey home.
