Day One - US Departure: Today we depart on our flight to Munich. Meals are served during our transatlantic flight.

Day 2 - Munich / Kitzbuehel Area: On arrival in Munich we will be met by our professional tour manager and escorted to our waiting motor coach. We will drive into the city, where our guided tour will reveal its most famous highlights - the Olympic Park from 1972, Königsplatz, and Marienplatz. After some free time to enjoy the atmosphere (and a beer) at the Hofbräuhaus, we continue to the Kitzbuehel Area, with its stunning location in the heart of the Austrian Alps - our home for four nights. (D)

Day 3 - Kitzbuehel Area (Salzburg Excursion): Dominated by its 900 year old fortress, Salzburg has a truly spectacular setting, which fully lives up to its reputation as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. This morning’s walking tour of the city of Mozart and the Sound of Music will reveal the charm and atmosphere of this unique city - its Cathedral, Festival Hall, St. Peter’s Monastery and Cemetery, Mozart’s Birthplace and the main shopping street of Getreidegasse. There will be free time for lunch and sightseeing before returning to our hotel in the Kitzbuehel Area. (BB)

Day 4 - Kitzbuehel Area (Bolzano + South Tirol): Our full day excursion today takes us over the Brenner Pass and into Italy, where we will visit Bolzano and explore the South Tirol Archaeological Museum, which houses one of the most fascinating discoveries ever to be found in Europe - the Man in the Ice, one of the oldest and most complete human finds in the world, was discovered on a glacier in the Ötz Valley and is estimated to be 5300 years old. Our visit of the museum provides a fascinating insight into the life of our prehistoric ancestors. We will have time to explore the mediaeval, arcaded alleyways of Bolzano and enjoy free time for lunch in the unique blend of Alpine and Mediterranean atmosphere, before we return to the Austrian Tirol. Weather and traffic conditions permitting, we will return via the stunning scenery of the Dolomites through the Puster Valley to the Kitzbuehel Area for our overnight. (BB)

Day 5 - Kitzbuehel Area (Berchtesgaden + Eagle’s Nest Excursion): Following breakfast we will drive into Bavaria to Berchtesgaden and visit the area of Obersalzberg, favoured by Hitler as a vacation retreat. Here we change to the local buses, which will drive up to the Eagle’s Nest for the spectacular views from 6000 feet down to the Königsee, to the Watzmann mountain and to Berchtesgaden. We will return to Kitzbuehel with free time in the afternoon to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this mediaeval Alpine town, before dinner at our hotel. (BB, D)

Day 6 – Kitzbuehel Area / Innsbruck / Neuschwanstein / Oberammergau: After breakfast we will depart Kitzbuhel and drive through the Inn Valley to the wintersports capital of Tirol – a short walking tour of Innsbruck will show you its historic heart, with the Golden Roof, Imperial Palace and Court Church. After free time for lunch and shopping, we continue to the German border to visit Neuschwanstein, the fairy-tale castle of ‘mad’ King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was here that the ‘Fairytale King’ attempted to re-create his images of mediaeval chivalry - so successfully that you will recognise the result as the model for Disneyland’s Cinderella’s castle. Dinner and overnight in Oberammergau. (BB, D)

Day 7 – Oberammergau: The Passion Play has been performed in Oberammergau since 1634. It is a tradition which, although common throughout Europe at that time, largely disappeared over the centuries. Except in this small Bavarian farming village it not only survived more than 350 years, but became famous all over the world. Oberammergau is also well-known for the traditional craft of wood-carving and for the frescoes decorating the village houses. This morning will be free to absorb the unique atmosphere of this Alpine village, before the afternoon and evening performance of the Passion Play. (BB, L, D)

Day 8 – Munich / USA: This morning we will be transferred to Munich airport to begin our journey home.

WELCOME HOME!!!
